Northgate Middle/High School will host a “Musical in a Night” event on Oct. 19 to share information about this year’s musical program.

By attending this event you are not automatically part of the musical, this is just an event for your to come and find out what musical is about! You will receive all of the information about musical auditions!

Elementary students and families are invited to our Walk & Roll to School Day at both Avalon and Bellevue elementary schools! On Wednesday, Oct. 4, we will meet in the former YMCA parking lot (next to Kuhn’s Market). Breakfast bags will be available to students at 7:30 a.m., and the Walk & Roll will start at 8 a.m.

We hope you will join us for this fun event!

Join the Northgate community on Friday, Sept. 29 for the annual Homecoming Parade and varsity football game. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. at Avalon Elementary School. Kickoff to the football game starts at 7 p.m.

Highmark Wholecare’s COMPASS Community Parter Team will be available at the Open House on September 21 from 5:30 – 7:30 at Avalon and Bellevue Elementary Schools to assist any family that might need to complete a Medicaid application in COMPASS for Medicaid renewal. Parents of secondary students can also access this service.

Every year, you’ll have to renew Medicaid benefits for you or your child. You’ll get a renewal packet in the mail with forms to fill out. It will come 30 days before it’s due.

You can also renew online or over the phone 60 days before your due date. To find your renewal date, visit dhs.pa.gov/COMPASS or use the free myCOMPASS PA mobile app. If you want to renew by phone, call 1-866-550-4355.

Northgate Superintendent Dr. Caroline Johns was one of five educators selected to serve on the Remake Learning cabinet. The board is evolving from a 3-person co-chair to a 5-person cabinet with a diverse array of education–focused experience.

The new Remake Learning Cabinet will consist of five regional leaders in education innovation:

• Melanie Claxton, Senior Program Officer, Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation
• Dr. Roger Davis, President, Community College of Beaver County
• Kevin L. Jenkins, L.S.W.: President and Chief Executive Officer, Manchester Bidwell Corporation
• Dr. Caroline Johns, Superintendent, Northgate School District
• Dr. Todd Keruskin, Vice President, Professional Services at McGraw Hill

The new cabinet’s areas of expertise span many essential sectors that make up the Remake Learning network, including K–12 education, higher education, OST, philanthropy, and industry. Members will meet regularly to help set the organization’s strategic vision and future trajectory. The cabinet will be chaired by Gregg Behr, the founder of Remake Learning and executive director of The Grable Foundation.

“We’re beyond grateful to the leaders who — over the past 15 years — poured their energy, ideas, and joy into Remake Learning. Their efforts have made our network what it is today: one of the most innovative learning ecosystems on the planet. Remake Learning’s shift toward a larger advisory cabinet will build on that work, enabling us to better integrate the resources and opportunities offered by our incredible network of educators, employers, innovators, and regional leaders,” said Behr.

Remake Learning previously utilized a co-chair model in which three people, including Behr, oversaw a Remake Learning Council of nearly 50 members. When two co-chair members recently departed — Dr. Valerie Kinloch, former Dean of the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh, became president of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC, and Dr. Jim Denova recently retired — it provided an opportunity for the organization to expand its advisory structure to better represent the full ecosystem of stakeholders in education.

“Remake Learning has been constantly evolving since its creation in 2007. Our new Remake Learning Cabinet members offer unique perspectives that will help our network collectively advance cross-sector innovation in various learning environments throughout the greater Pittsburgh region and beyond,” said Tyler Samstag, Director of Remake Learning.

Arts Greenhouse will host ongoing afterschool classes at the Allegheny General Hospital Suburban Campus in Bellevue, beginning this month!
