Middle School Advisory

Based on the most current research of the Association for Middle Level Education, the Northgate Middle School Advisory Program is designed to provide our students with intensive support during this pivotal transition period. Every student in grades 7 and 8 is assigned to an Advisory Mentor who serves as a mentor and advocate for that student.

Advisory meets every day allowing Advisory Mentors to keep a close eye on their advisory students. Advisory Mentors monitor student grades and meet with them individually to discuss their progress. If a student begins to experience difficulties, their Advisory Mentor communicates with the Middle School team and the student’s parents to determine the root causes and develop a customized plan to support the student.

The Middle School Advisory Program also devotes time to group activities designed to develop compassion and empathy in our students as they begin to think about where they fit into their community. This program has received national attention and is being presented at the Annual Conference for Middle Level Education this November.
