Graduation Requirements

Students are urged to make the best use of their time by enrolling in rigorous courses throughout their four years. This generally means that students should earn more than the minimum number of credits required for graduation. A total of 24.5 credits are required for graduation and a diploma from the Northgate School District. All students are required to take a minimum of 5.25 credits each year. 

English Language Arts
Four Courses Minimum, with the following courses recommended:
• College Prep English 9: 1.0 credit
• CIHS English 10: 1.0 credit
• CIHS English 11: 1.0 credit
• CIHS English 12 or AP Literature: 1.0 credit

Mathematics
Three Courses Minimum, with the following courses recommended:
​​​​​​​• College Prep Geometry or Algebra I: 1.0 credit
​​​​​​​• College Prep Geometry or Algebra II: 1.0 credit
​​​​​​​• CIHS Trigonometry/Pre Calculus or CIHS Algebra II: 1.0 credit

Science
Three Courses Minimum, with the following courses recommended:
​​​​​​​• College Prep Science: 1.0 credit
​​​​​​​• CIHS Biology: 1.0 credit
​​​​​​​• CIHS Physics or Chemistry: 1.0 credit

Social Studies
Four Courses Minimum, with the following courses recommended:
​​​​​​​• College Prep American Studies I: 1.0 credit
​​​​​​​• College Prep American Studies II: 1.0 credit
​​​​​​​• CIHS Human Geography: 1.0 credit
​​​​​​​• CIHS Government: 1.0 credit

Health & Physical Education
8 semesters (2 semesters per year-one per semester) of PE plus one year of Health:
​​​​​​​​​​​​​• Physical Education 9: 1 credit
​​​​​​​• Physical Education 10: 1 credit
​​​​​​​• Physical Education 11: 1 credit
​​​​​​​• Physical Education 12: 1 credit

​​​​​​​• Health 9: 0.5 credits
​​​​​​​• Health 10: 0.5 credits
​​​​​​​• Health 11: 0.5 credits
​​​​​​​• Health 12: 0.5 credits

Computer Science & Business
Two Courses Minimum, with the following courses recommended:
• CIHS Computer Science Principles: 1 credit
​​​​​​​• CIHS Business Communications: 1 credit

Arts & Humanities
Four Courses Minimum:
Arts and Humanities, as defined by the PA Department of Education, include courses in the humanities English and/or Social Studies courses beyond the minimum graduation requirements listed above, Foreign Languages, Music, Art, Family Consumer Science, Business Education, and Technology Education. No other coursework can be counted in this area.

Graduation Project
All students must meet the requirements of the Graduation Project. Students must complete the requirements for the Career Capstone graduation project during their Junior year.
